Worst Mother Ever

"What is that?" you may be asking yourself. Well, it is a rock stuck to a stick of course! "But why is she blogging about it?" Well, first you may want to go back and read this short post from October.

Yep, that's right. He really DID have a rock in his ear! I took him in to the doctor for his annual well-child visit this afternoon. The doc did the usual checking: eyes, nose, mouth, ears. When he got to the right ear, he said that there was a small blockage and opened one of those ear wax grabber thingies. When that didn't work he said, "Hmmm... it almost looks like a rock." OMG, I nearly fell off my chair! I had completely forgotten about the nurse incident until that moment! So I gave him the history, and he left to find something to grab it with. He came back with little scissor-looking things with grabbers at the end, but the rock proved too large. In the end, it was the age-old method of putting some super glue on the end of a stick and gluing it to the rock, then pulling that worked! Quite a technical and complicated medical procedure. (And, if past experience is any indication, this will likely be billed to insurance as "surgery" -- just like when the doctor removed a splinter from C's foot!)

As you can see in the pictures below, the rock was really quite large. The doctor was surprised that it fit in there. He said that it had to have been inserted at exactly the right angle in order to fit, and that it just happened to be exactly the same shape as the ear canal. Yep, that's my little scientist - leave it to him to find a rock that would exactly fit in his ear!

Here you can see it compared to a pea, a kernel of corn and my pinkie finger.

The boy who called nurse! What a great story this will make in 10 or 15 years!

okay I'm a really bad cousin then because I darn near fell out of my chair laughing. You can't be so hard on yourself, it couldn't have been bothering him too much if he never mentioned it again. Do you think it was rolling around like when you have water in your ear?
